Elements and Principles of Design Scavenger Hunt

We learned about the elements and principles of design by taking pictures from our everyday lives. We then matched those pictures with definitions. My partner (Alexis) and I made flashcards that we could use with our 3-5 graders. Each flashcard had the element or principle name at the top with both of our pictures. On the back was the definition.  Focal Point/Emphasis: I chose this photo because the focal point is clearly the cat's face. The rest of her body is slightly blurred, and the direction she is looking leads you to look at her eyes. Nothing in the background or sides is distracting. Unity/Variety: Everything in this picture is a cactus, which gives it unity. However, there are different shapes, sizes, and colors. This adds interest and gives the image some variety in its design.  Balance: This design has symmetrical or radial balance.
